Net Entertainment Reports Excellent Q4 Numbers

Net Entertainment, the Stockholm based casino software provider, has reported that revenues for the last quarter of 2011 grew by 21.6%.

According to Net Entertainment’s financial report, the three month period ending December 2011 yielded revenue of GBP 11.51 million.

Swedish Net Entertainment revealed that in the fourth quarter of 2011 its profit after tax increased by a massive 26% to GBP 3.48 million.

Several important developments occurred at Net Entertainment during 2011 which included the unveiling of its innovative five-reel and 20 pay-line online slot game Scarface last month at the International Casino Exhibition (ICE) in London as well as the signing of two important licensing deals and the launch of two partner online casinos.

The group also revealed that its revenues for the full year increased 16.1% in 2011 to GBP 40.63 million while operating profits were reported to be GBP 12.32 million.

Bjorn Krantz, acting Chief Executive Officer of the group commented on the Q4 numbers and stated that the year 2011 was one of product initiatives and new markets enabling Net Entertainment to secure solid growth for the company. Krantz added that revenues had increased by 21.6% during the fourth quarter as a result of organic growth. He also said that Net Entertainment has been successful in strengthening its position as a major supplier of games and systems within online casinos as well as focusing on customer interaction and product and technology leadership and that these qualities will continue to differentiate them.

During the fourth quarter of 2011 Net Entertainment decided to launch its own live casino product which it is planning to release toward the end of 2012.

US Powerball Jackpot Reaches Record $250 Million

Excitement is mounting amongst Powerball ticket buyers after Saturday night’s draw saw no one having all the matching numbers resulting in the Jackpot rising to a whopping $250 million.

The price of Powerball tickets doubled from $1 to $2 a ticket on January 15, 2012, and while some players are happy with the new changes which were designed to create larger jackpots and better chances of becoming a multimillionaire, others are unhappy with the price hike.

Powerball, which began in 1987 as Lotto America, is played in 42 states. The name was changed to Powerball in 1992 with the goal to pick five numbers from 1 to 59 and the Powerball from 1 to 35.

Despite the fact that the jackpot was not hit on Saturday night, several instant millionaires were created over the weekend with two ticket holders who purchased their tickets in Colorado and Florida each winning $2 million after matching the first five numbers and having the Power Play prize boosting option.

The draw for the US Powerball, which is a combined jackpot game and cash game, takes place every Wednesday and Saturday night at one minute to 11. Players have the opportunity to purchase their Powerball lottery tickets up until 59 minutes before the draw and with Wednesday night’s draw offering a jackpot of $250 million, it is little wonder that throngs of people are rushing out to snatch up tickets for the draw.

The highest Powerball jackpot ever won was in 2006 when eight co-workers from a Nebraska meat-packing plant bought tickets and split the price of $365 million.

Illinois Soon to Offer Online Lottery Tickets

In a move that could possibly bring in millions in revenue to the cash strapped state, Illinois intends taking its lottery online within a couple of months. Gambling opponents are, however, very much against this move.

Up to 500,000 more players are expected to be attracted to games such as the Mega Moolah with an online lottery. The Mega Moolah jackpot exceeds over $100 million approximately 40 times a year and this could result in great rewards for the state. Illinois can earn 42c for each Mega Moolah ticket sold and gets 25c on every instant ticket sold.

In 2009 State lawmakers approved a massive road and bridge construction program that included the possibility of selling lottery tickets online in order to help pay for it. However, they were waiting for the go-ahead from the federal government which came through shortly before Christmas.

If Illinois commences with the sale of online tickets soon, it would be the first state to do so.

A pilot program that will run for three or four years will begin in March or April of this year and may include Powerball ticket sales. Only residents of Illinois over the age of 18 will be permitted to buy tickets. These tickets can be purchased with a credit card.

Those wishing to purchase tickets at retail stores or gas stations will be required to pay for them in cash.

Jerry Prosapio, co-founder of the group Gambling Exposed revealed that they are very worried about an online lottery as any new form of legalized gambling has brought more addiction and with the addiction it brings additional bankruptcies and crime.

Microgaming Poker Network and Initial Rewards strike new deal

The Microgaming Poker Network (MPN), formerly Prima Poker, has announced an agreement in principal with one of the most experienced and largest providers of loyalty products to the iGaming sector, namely Initial Rewards.

In terms of the deal between MPN and London-based Initial Rewards, the latter company will be authorized to service the Microgaming Poker Network operators with loyalty store reward programs in an attempt to enrich their player’s experience and enhance customer retention.
